🌞 When is the best time to visit?🌦️

There is no bad time to visit Costa Rica. (Okay... October. It's October!) We generally don't encourage visits to Guanacaste in September and October, because those are the rainiest months of the year and many businesses shut down during that time. But if you are adventurous and also want to visit the Caribbean side, which is generally dryer that time of year, come on down!🌧️

🏖️November-December marks the transition between the rainy and dry seasons, so that is a beautiful time to visit. It still rains occasionally, but we can generally expect sunny weather. The forest is lush and green and all the rivers and waterfalls are flowing.🌴

☀️January-April is very dry. The hottest part of year, this is a good time for water sports and sun seekers. Not the best choice for the heat sensitive, and it can be quite dry and dusty.🫠

🌺June-August is a beautiful time of year. Steady rain typically only lasts half the day, leading to flourishing plants and wildlife. You might get lucky and see an incredible light show if a summer thunderstorm moves across the sea!⚡

✈️ What Airport do I fly into?🛬

The closest airport is Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia (LIR). If you choose to extend your trip by vacationing to other areas of Costa Rica and want to fly in or out of San Jose (SJO), we can advise you, and we are happy to arrange round-trip, door-to-door transportation to and from either airport.

🛂 Do I need a Passport?📓

Yes. A visa is not required for visitors from most countries, but everyone needs to have a valid passport with at least 6 months left before expiry. If your passport expiration date is less than 6 months, you may be denied entry into Costa Rica. You will also need to show your return ticket or proof of onward travel. Ask your airline and embassy about other travel requirements.

💵 What About Money?💷

The local currency is the Costa Rican Colon, but the US dollar is widely accepted and credit cards are taken almost everywhere. You do not need to exchange money at the airport; Samara has several ATM machines that dispense both USD and CRC, and most of the businesses in town will make an exchange for you as well, allowing you to pay with dollars and get change in colones.

🗺️ Can you help me plan my vacation?🗿

Yes! We would be honored to curate an itinerary just for you, taking into account your special needs and interests, to ensure your entire Costa Rican experience is magical.✨Want to visit a rainforest or volcano, soak in hot springs or see a sloth? 📗 Where do I buy Travel Insurance?🎫

Travel Insurance coverage is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED when booking an international vacation! With most agencies, insurance must be purchased within 7-14 days of making your reservation.

You can access many international travel insurance providers by doing a search on TravelInsurance.com to get several quotes.

We recommend you purchase an insurance policy that covers you for all relevant activities that you will be engaging in on your trip - especially any action sports like surfing, hiking, cycling, rafting, etc.
